A Night Dedicated to the Musical Bard: Kishore Kumar

One of the most maverick legends that Bollywood has ever seen, Kishore Kumar has been the subject of many a concert night. Recently, the Kishore Kumar Memorial Club (a cultural, social, art, stage and film based society) organized a musical tribute, Door Ka Raahi, to the legend Kishore Kumar and held the 14th Kishore Kumar Awards on the 12th of December, 2015, from 5.30 pm onwards in the Gandhi Memorial Hall at the Pearey Lal Bhawan.

Inaugurated by Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, MP, Lok Sabha, the chief guest was the Honourable Minister of States (IC) for Textiles, Govt of India, Santosh Kumar Gangwar and the guests of honour included Shri Pravesh Singh Verma (MP Lok Sabha) and Shri Rajiv Kale (the registrar of GGSIP University). It was presided over by Shri Lala Ram (Manager, IOC), Col. (Dr.) Dalmir Singh (social activist) and Prof. O.P. Verma (astrologer).

The evening saw melodious singing by different singers who paid homage by singing his popular songs. There was a special performance by Bhuppi and Sanam Singh. At the event, important citizens were also felicitated, which included music director Lovely Sharma, art promoter and event organizer, Rakesh Sharma, art promoter, Vipin Oberoi, singer and actor Sikandar Raja Hasan, TV anchor from Doordarshan, Sanjeev Upadhyay, Dr Mukesh Chander, IPS and Special Commissioner of Police – Traffic, film director Ravindra Rajawat, record collector, Lakhwant Singh, poet Deepak Gupta Shital Vij, chairman and editor, Dainik Savera Times and others.

Apart from the songs, the audience was also treated to a nostalgia trip with photos from his era. The organizers had curated the photo exhibition which included photos of the legend with his contemporaries such as Mohd. Rafi, stars for whom he had given voice such as Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, music director friends such as R.D. Burman and songs from movies such as Anand, Sholay and Sagina.
